Nathan Van Wie

Guitar/Ukulele/Banjo/Mandolin

Music has always been near the center of my life. Growing up, I never had to look far if I wanted to tinker with a guitar, bass, or piano. This resulted in my life long passion for learning new instruments. Nowadays, I can get by on just about anything with strings and frets!

Throughout the years, I have played in several bands, including Morgan and the Mountain and Bears in Town. I have recorded 5 albums of music between these projects, in which I played guitar, bass, ukulele, piano, and helped out with vocals.

I am very excited to be teaching with Mountain Music Academy! Those who I have taught in the past have mentioned that I am good at breaking down musical concepts so they could understand.  I am currently looking for students, offering lessons for guitar, bass, mandolin, and ukulele.

Voice/Piano

I’ve been asked more than a handful of times when I started singing- and it’s a hard thing to pin down, so I’ll just say there isn’t a time in my life when I wasn’t singing. I first started training my voice when I was 12 years old with classical training techniques. I continued that route, but my confidence lacked in my teenage years so I was unable to successfully try out for any choirs, or productions in my youth. It was in my late teens when I found a vocal coach based on speech-level singing. This technique offered a variety of vocal styling that offered me more confidence, and more of an ability to express the emotion I felt in the song, rather than the form focus of classical vocal refinement. From there the stage became my happy place. I was able to get into the vocal program at Utah State University, started performing around the valley, and released a number of singles and 2 albums. I am currently lead singer in the band The Dustbowl Collective, and we enjoy performing at venues along the Wasatch Front, and Southern Utah.

I believe in having a good mixture of both Classical and Pop vocal techniques. I want to teach you how to vocalize in a way that gives you confidence and helps you express what you have to say in the way you want to express it. I’m thrilled to be a part of Mountain Music Academy and I look forward to helping you reach your vocal goals.

Voice/Piano

Music has always been a large part of my life. Having grown up in a small town, I understand the many different things elementary through high school students can be involved in. I took early piano lessons during my elementary days but was very inconsistent in my practice and playing. But then, one Christmas morning, a Journey's Greatest Hits piano book arrived, and I took off. The piano became my constant companion, and I've been serenading those keys ever since.

High school consisted of a four-year run in the show choir and lead roles in musical theater productions balanced with athletics and academics. That journey led me to Utah State University's vocal department, where I earned a degree in music education with a focus on Choir, learning from none other than Dr. Craig Jessop.

Classical voice training was my vocal foundation, but it was musical theater that taught me to let my emotions flow through the music I created.

Now, I'm not only the music director at Mountain Green Middle School but also a dedicated private voice and piano teacher. My mission is to empower students to find their musical identity and have fun! Parents, expect a safe, exciting space for your kids to flourish.

So, whether you're playing the piano or finding your own voice, let's make some music!
